There was a regular meeting of the Flemingsburg City Council Monday, March 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Annex.  Council members present were Ricky Hurst, Kathy Moore, Georgianna Sparks, Meredith Story, and Van Alexander.  Councilman Scott Manning was absent.  Mayor Martin L. Voiers presided.

 

Councilwoman Moore led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Council observed a moment of silence in memory of former Councilwoman Nancy Suit.

 

Minutes of the February meeting were presented.  Councilman Alexander moved to approve.  Councilman Hurst seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

 

Steve Donovan, Economic Development Director, informed Council that a log cabin had been donated to the Arts Council a few years ago and since the Arts Council no longer exists the owner of the cabin would like for the City to have it.  Mayor Voiersreferred  the matter to the Buildings and Grounds Committee and the Parks Committee.

 

A meeting of the Buildings and Grounds Committee and the Parks Committee was scheduled for March 21st at 6:00 p.m. in the City Annex.

 

A 2004 Chevy Impala, VIN# 2G1WF52KX59211930, was presented as surplus property.  Councilwoman Sparks moved to declare as surplus and dispose of through sealed bids with a minimum reserve of $2,000.  Councilwoman Moore seconded the motion.  Motion carried. 

 

Mayor Voiers presented the Planning Commission’s recommendation that the Hyatt Property be accepted into the city.  It was noted that the streets are not finished and don’t meet city specifications.  Councilwoman Sparks moved to accept the property into the city with the exception of the streets until they are brought up to code.  Councilman Hurst seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

 

A Safety Committee meeting was scheduled for March 21st at 5:30 p.m. in the City Annex.

 

City Clerk/Treasurer Joy Roark provided written financial reports.

 

Codes Enforcement Officer Greg Boling presented the Codes report.

 

Dave Gray presented the FCA TV report.

 

Police Chief Randy Sergent presented the Police report.

 

Public Works Superintendent Dennis Masters presented the Public Works report.

 

Utilities Superintendent Joe Dunaway presented the Utilities report.

 

Councilwoman Sparks reported that some citizens had expressed an interest in donating to the walking trail improvements and suggested a fund raiser to supplement any grant funding for the walking trail.

 

Councilman Story reported a safety issue drivers were having when turning off of the By-Pass and onto Byron Way.

 

There being no further business, Councilman Story moved to adjourn at 7:50p.m.
